Luke 1977 Clothing
Luke 1977 was started by Luke Roper who was born in 1977, thus the date attached to the first name of the designer. Luke Roper is from walsall in the midlands, the black country, where he believes denim was first created! Luke Roper was brought up around clothing and was the son of a wedding dress maker. By the age of 12 he was quite handy with a sawing machine and when at school gained a following of friends who he made shirts for. When he left school he started a course at his local college in Walsall doing Fashion and Textiles. In 1997 Luke started his degree in menswear design at the prestigious Saint Martins College in London. Some people think it's Luke 1997 and not Luke1977; an easy mistake and 1997 was actually a big time in the making of the brand. Luke excelled well during this time and kept his following of fashion fans who wanted more.
To gain experience after Saint Martins he worked for a short time as an assistant designer at a major label. When Luke thought he was ready to go it alone he joined forces with his best pal, Simon Poole, and Luke 1977 the brand was born. In the last few years the label has become one of the leading designer brands in the UK market. In 2010 it won the Drapers Young Brand of the Year award. This is a big deal in the fashion world and has brought the brand to the forefront of mens designer clothing. Over the past few years Luke 1977 clothing has secured a place in the top flight of sought after labels in the UK. With catchy slogans like United Kingdom of Luke and Dresslexic Resistant, Luke 1977 manages to successfully draw from elements that appeal to a wide demographic. Smart, but not over the top; stylish, but masculine: Luke 1977 clothing and the top top-end Luke Roper label can now be spotted on the backs of discerning young men throughout the country. Owing to the label's reluctance to open accounts with every high street Tom, Dick and Harry, Luke clothing has also maintained a specialist appeal and a great deal of integrity. If that sounds like your cup of tea, come and join the United Kingdom of Luke!
There are three areas to the brand today: the first and most widely known is Luke 1977. This is for the daytime - casual and easy wearing; something you would wear when out with the lads or going to the football. The next is Luke Roper, a smarter and more formal line, with some suits. The third is Forever in Luke Jeans which is a more casual look, for the pub or around the house. The founder himself explains... 'Luke is a day at the football, Roper is an evening with the family'.
