Onitsuka Tiger was founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka back in 1949. It came after Onitsuka decided that sports could play an important role in rebuilding the self-esteem of young people in Japan. With the help of top marathon runners and basketball coaches, Onitsuka was able to develop products that provided comfort for the athletes who wore them. And, inspired by a plate of octopus legs, he developed the first sole to enable basketball players to stop and start without slipping. Today Onitsuka Tiger and sister brand ASICS are two of the most prolific trainer brands in the world. The classic Mexico '66 trainer is more popular than ever, with a library of colourways and limited edition finishes it has become a versatile staple for those with individuality who don't want to wear the same thing as everyone else.
